Ibnul-Jawzi on the Dying Person’s Alertness

The Shaikh, the Imaam, the Allaamah, the Shaikh of Islaam, Abul-Faraj Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Ali ibn Muhammad ibn al-Jawzi, said:

“From the most interesting things is the alertness of the dying person at the time of his death–for he becomes perceptive to a degree which cannot be described, and worried to an extent that has no limits.
And he yearns for his times of old, and wishes that he be left so that he can make up for what passed him by, and so that he can be truthful in his repentance in accordance with the level of certainty he [now] has about death.

Who is Bankrupt on the Day of Judgement??

Ibn ul-Jawzi (rahimahullaah) said:

“By Allaah, one should implement what he knows for it is indeed the greatest foundation. And the Miskeen (poor) , the true Miskeen is the one who wasted his life learning that which he does not practice, thus he looses the pleasures of the Dunyaa (world) and the goodness of the Aakhirah (hereafter), coming forth bankrupt (on the Day of Judgment) with strong evidences against himself.”

Whoever is knocking at the door of Allaah..

As long as you are performing prayer, you are knocking at the door of Allaah, and whoever is knocking at the door of Allaah, Allaah will open it for them."
Ibn Qayyim Al Jawziyyah (Rahimahullaah)

Eating in Moderation!

Uqbah al-Rassibi entered al-Hasan’s house whilst he was having lunch. Al-Hasan insisted he eat, so ‘Uqbah told him that he was full, thereafter al-Hasan said, “Subhanallaah! Does a Muslim eat until he is full?”

"By Allaah, one should implement what he knows.."

Ibn ul-Jawzi (rahimahullaah),

By Allaah, one should implement what he knows for it is indeed the greatest foundation. And the miskeen (poor) , the true miskeen is the one who wasted his life learning that which he does not practice, thus he loses the pleasures of the dunyaa (world) and the goodness of the aakhirah (Hereafter), coming forth bankrupt (on the Day of Judgment) with strong evidences against himself.

O Seeker of Good, Where are you?

Some thought-provoking & heartfelt words on Ramadhan
 by Ibn al-Jawzi (rahimahullaah

‘… Where are those who fast & where are those who pray by night? Where are those who obey their Lord & where are those who work righteousness? Where are those who are foremost & where are the humble ones? Where are those who remember (their Lord) & where are those devoted to Him? Where are the truthful & where are the patient? Where are the charity-givers? Where are those who enjoin good, who save the troubled ones & who forbid the wrong? Where are those who heed contemplation & who listen to good advice & life-lessons? By Allaah, they have indeed gone with the Salihin (righteous), returned with the Mu’minin (believers), settled with the Anbiya’ (Prophets) & taken residence with the Siddiqin (truthful ones). But us, we remain behind with the ignorant, have settled with the wrong-doers & have taken the heedless as our guides…

Mend Your Relations With Allaah...

“No servant of Allaah mends what is between him & Allaah, except that Allaah mends what is between him & other servants.  And he does not spoil what is between him & Allaah, except that Allaah spoils what is between him & the servants of Allaah. Working for the sake of ones face is easier than working for the sake of all faces. For if you work for the sake of that Face [the Face of Allaah], all faces will turn to you. But if you spoil it, all faces will the detest you.”

Sadness over Sins & Heedlessness

Animated wallpaper, screensaver 240x320 for cellphone

“Know that the heart of a person of sound mind cannot be free of sadness, because he remembers his previous sins, therefore becomes sad, he thinks about his negligence, reflects on what the scholars & the righteous have said, as a result he becomes sad for not taking heed.”

—Ibn al-Jawzī [d. 597H/1201CE]

Free Time & Health for Obedience

“A person may be healthy but not free due to being busy with earning a living, or he could be without need (for earning a living) & not be healthy.  If the two factors come together & laziness from acts of obedience overcomes him, he is deceived.  The full [picture] is that this world is a farm of the next world.  In it is business whose profits will appear in the next life.  So whoever uses his free time & health in doing acts of obedience is in an enviable position, fortunate, & blessed, & whoever uses them in acts of disobedience is deceived.  Because free time is followed by business, & health by sickness, even if it is only old age.”

Ibn al-Jawzī [d. 597H/1201CE]

“I worship (Allaah) by making du’aa & I am CERTAIN that the answer will come”

Shaykh Ibn al-Jawzee (rahimahullaah) says:

“If you fall into a hardship that is hard to be free from, you can’t (do anything) but make du’aa and take refuge in Allaah, after repenting from sins, because sins necessitate...

Not permissible to WASTE an hour of my Life…

Ibn ‘Aqeel al-Hanbali (rahimahullaah) said of himself:

It is not permissible for me to waste an hour of my life. When I stop discussing issues of knowledge & debating them (with others) & when I stop reading in a book, I would start pondering & thinking when I am resting & lying down, & before I get up, I will have already an idea that I should write down & I am very keen to increase my knowledge now I am in my eighties & more keen than when I was twenty years old.

The BEST you can meet Allaah with…

It is reported from ‘Â’ishah – (radiallaahu anhaa) – that she said:

“You will never meet Allah with anything better for you than having few sins. Whoever wants to surpass those who exert themselves in worship, let him stop himself from committing numerous sins.”

Ibn Al-Jawzî, Sifah Al-Safwah Vol.1 p319.
