ALLAH has Fed him & Given him to Drink

The Prophet  صلى الله عليه وسلم  said:-
"If any one of you forgetfully eats or drinks while observing the fast, he should complete his Sawm [Fasting] for Allaah has fed him & given him to drink.'
[Source: Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

This Hadith clearly states the Sawm remains intact if due to forgetfulness one eats or drinks. This is provided one abandons the act as soon as he remembers that he is observing Sawm !

SubhanAllaah !! What a Merciful Lord we have…

What is the ruling on the fasting person using cream to get rid of the dryness on the lips?

Sheikh Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaimeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked about the ruling on the fasting person using cream to get rid of the dryness on the lips. So, he replied:

‘There is no problem in a person using that which moistens the lips and the nose by way of a cream, or him moistening it with water or with a cloth or that which resembles that. However, he should be careful in case something of this which he has used to remove the coarseness reaches his stomach. And if something does reach the stomach unintentionally, then there is nothing upon him, just as if he rinsed out his mouth and the water reached his stomach unintentionally, then indeed, he does not break his fast with this.'

How To Know if You’re Too Ill to Fast

Sheikh Uthaimeen, may Allaah have mercy on him, was asked, “What is the scale/degree of harm according to which a fast becomes harmful for someone who is ill and after which it becomes forbidden?”

He replied, “Indeed, harm is known through feeling & it may be known by being informed of it.  As for knowing it by feel then it is if an ill person feels that the fast is harming him & making his pain worse & delaying his recovery.  And as for [recognizing that] by being informed then it is if a knowledgeable, trustworthy, doctor tells him that [it is harmful], & it is not a condition that the doctor be a Muslim.”

Ibn Baaz on Fasting During a Journey

Shaikh Ibn Baaz, may Allaah have mercy on him, said,

The traveller has the choice of either fasting or not fasting, and what is apparent from the legislated proofs is that not fasting is better especially if the fast is difficult for him, due to the saying of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, “Fasting during a journey is not righteousness.

Sheikh Uthaimeen’s Encouragement to Feed the Fasting

Sheikh Uthaimeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said,

Whoever has the ability should be keen on providing people who are fasting with iftaar, either in the mosques or in any other place, because, “Whoever feeds a fasting person will have a reward like that of the fasting person.”So when a person feeds his fasting brothers he will have a reward like theirs, thus whoever Allaah the Most High has enriched [from His Bounty] should seize the opportunity to attain this great reward.”

(Q) “What is the ruling for a person who forgetfully eats or drinks during the day [in Ramadhan]?”

(A)  Imaam Ibn Baaz, (rahimahullaah), answered:

There is no harm on him, & his fast is correct. This is due to Allaah’s, removed is He from imperfection, statement at the end of Surah al-Baqarah:

رَبَّنَا لاَ تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا
Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error.’

Questions & Answers on Fasting

Selected excerpts from Al-Ibaanah Book publication "Lessons on Fasting, Taraaweeh & Zakaat + 48 Questions & Answers on Fasting"

Question 1: For many people in Ramadhan, their main focus is only that of basking in food & sleep. So Ramadhan becomes a month of laziness & inactivity. Likewise, some people play all night & then sleep during day. What is your advice to these kinds of people?

Question 2: What is the ruling on fasting in Ramadhan when one does not pray?

Question 3: Should children below the age of fifteen be ordered to fast as in the case with prayer?

Question 4: What is your opinion concerning people who sleep throughout the day in Ramadaan? Some of them pray in congregation while others do not. Is their fast valid?

Fasting & NOT Praying...

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (Hafidhahullaah)
Q. What is the ruling of the one who fasts the blessed (month of) Ramadhan without praying at all with no (legislated) excuse, knowing that we have advised him many times, but he has not listened?

The one who waste the prayer, the fast nor any other action is considered sound (i.e. accepted) from him. That is because the one who abandons the prayer has disbelieved & the action that comes from the disbeliever is not sound (i.e. accepted). The prayer is the second pillar from the pillars of Islaam & the fast is the fourth pillar. Therefore the prayer is given precedence over the fast & it is the pillar of Islaam.

Make Fasting Different..!!

“When you fast, your hearing & sight should also fast, & your tongue should fast by keeping away from lies; & do not harm your servant. Don’t let the day you fast be the same as the day you don’t fast.”

I am sick & NOT able to Fast..

by Sheikh Bin Baaz (Rahimahullaah)
http://www.binbaz.org.sa/mat/13359/

Question: I am sick and NOT able to fast. If I fast it will harm me. Do I have to do expiation or what should I do?

Answer: This needs some explanation: If the sick person is likely to become healed and the doctors are saying if he gets the treatment it’s anticipated that he will be healed, then the fasting remains as a debt; the fasting remains as a debt until the sick person becomes healed then he should make the fast up.

But if the doctors have established that the sick person is not likely to be healed from this sickness, rather it is a permanent illness then he is like the elderly person who is not able to fast and therefore he should feed one poor person for every day missed of the fast.

What is the right age to get children used to fasting?

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Allaah has enjoined fasting upon every Muslim who is accountable, able to do it & not traveling. As for young children who have not yet reached the age of puberty, fasting is not obligatory for them, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The pen has been lifted from three” & he mentioned young children until they reach puberty. But the child’s guardian must tell him to fast if he reaches an age where he is able to do so, because that comes under the heading of training him to implement the pillars of Islam. We see some people leaving their children alone & not telling them to pray or fast, but this is wrong, & he (the parent) will be responsible for that before Allaah. They say that they do not make their children fast out of kindness & compassion towards them, but in fact the one who is truly kind & compassionate towards his child is the one who trains him to acquire good characteristics & to do righteous deeds, not the one who refrains from disciplining and training him in a beneficial manner.
