What is the best way to seek knowledge?

Question: Briefly, what is the way to seek knowledge, and may Allaah reward you with good?

Response by Sheikh ibn ‘Uthaimeen رحمه الله:

Briefly, in point form, the way to seek knowledge is as follows:

1) Take care to memorize the Book of Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى and allocate some time every day to memorize and read, such that your recitation is with reflection and understanding. And if you come across a beneficial point whilst reading, then make a note of it;

2) Take care to memorize that which is easy (for you) from the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم and from that (I recommend) memorizing (the book) ‘Umdatul-Ahkaam;

3) Take care in concentrating and confirming (whilst seeking knowledge) such that you do not take a little knowledge from here and a little from there. This is because this wastes your time and (unnecessarily) busies your mind;

4) Start with the smaller books and study them well, then move on to that which is above this (in level) until you obtain knowledge little by little in a manner which makes firm (the knowledge) in your heart and to that which you are at peace (comfortable) with;

5) Take care to understand the fundamental issues, their rules and the limits of all that passes by you, as it has been said:

Whoever does not take care to learn the fundamentals/principles, then he has prevented (himself) from arriving at the conclusion/goal;

Would you like to be a Key to Good?

The Messenger of Allaah صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم said:

"Verily amongst the people are those who are keys to good and locks to evil. And amongst the people are those who are keys to evil and locks to good. So Toobaa[1] for the one whom Allaah has placed the keys of good upon his hands and woe be to the one whom Allaah has placed the keys of evil at his disposal.”
[Sunan Ibn Maajah #237, Ibn Abi 'Aasim in "As-Sunnah" #297, Musnad At-Tayaalisi #2082, Al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Eemaan #698, & Al-Albani declared it good in As-Saheehah #1332]

Sheikh ‘Abdur Razaaq bin ‘Abdul Muhsin Al-‘Abbaad حفظه الله said:

"From the ways to be a key to good is by supplication."

Supplication is the key to every good as one of the Pious Predecessors stated something similar when he said: “I contemplated about the entirety of good and found that it has many entrances: Prayer is from good, fasting is from good, hajj (pilgrimage to the Sacred House of Allaah) is from good, the entrances of good are numerous. Then I realized that all of that is in the Hands of Allaah and thus I was certain that supplication is the key to all good.”

You are incapable of praying unless Allaah assists you in that, you are incapable of performing the pilgrimage to the Sacred House, fasting, giving charity, being dutiful to your parents, carrying out acts of righteousness unless Allaah assists you in that. For this reason, the Prophet صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم recited on the day of Ahzaab:

If it wasn’t for Allaah, we wouldn’t have been guided, nor would we have fasted or offered prayer.”

Notes from the FREE online SARF Classes

الصَّرْفُ
Taught by: Umm Hyatt al-Ameriki حفظها الله
Notes of: Umm Hasna bint Jabir as-Saylâniyyah
 Introduction

Umm Hyatt حفظها الله started the introduction to الصرف (As-Sarf) with a dua asking Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى to put barakah in our time of learning and to aid us. There is no purpose in our striving to doing anything if it is not to seek the pleasure of Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى and asking Him to grant us tawfeeq (success) in that which we endeavor to do. Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى has chosen this language for His Noble Book (the Qur'aan) and also for Ahlul Jannaah (the people of Jannaah). If we study step by step it will be easy for us with the help of Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى.

It is unanimously agreed  by the Scholars of Islaam that:

The Arabic language is the key to understanding Islaam that is because this Qur’aan and Sunnah have been revealed in the Arabic language, therefore one will not totally understand the different aspects of the Deen without Arabic. This is because everything has to be translated i.e. the words of Allaah cannot be translated into any language.”

This course is for those who have some basic knowledge of the Arabic language. The name of the Book we will be using is المَدخَلْ فِي عِلْمُ الصَّرف (The entrance into the Science of Sarf) -- by Sheikh Fath-hul Qadsi حفظه الله. This book has everything a beginner needs to know. Thereafter, depending on the level of the students, more material will be added, insha-Allaah.

Wake up at Night.. Recite this Dhikr & seek Forgiveness...

Narrated ‘Ubada bin As-Samit رضي اللّه عنـه: The Prophet صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم said:

"Whoever gets up at night and says: –

‘There is none worthy of worship (in truth) except Allaah Alone, He has no partners, He has the Dominion and for Him is all praise, and He is capable of all things, praise is for Him, and Far is Allaah from imperfection, and there is none worthy of worship (in truth) except Allaah, and Allaah is the Greatest, there is no capability nor is there any power except with Allaah.

Laa ilaaha ‘illa Allaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul mulku walahul hamdu wa huwa ala kulli shayyin qadeer; SubhanAllaahi, wal hamdu lillaahi, wa laa illaah illa Allaah, waAllaahu akbar, Laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaah.

Then he says : اللهمَ اغْفِرْلي   O Allaah forgive me (Allaahumma aghfirlee), or he supplicates and his supplication is answered, and if he makes Wudhu and prays, then his prayer is accepted."

From the Benefits of the Sittings of Knowledge

Upon the authority of Sahl ibn Handhalah رضي اللّه عنـه who said: “The Messenger of Allaah صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم said:

A people do not sit together remembering Allaah and then rise from their place of sitting, except that it is said to them: "Rise! For indeed Allaah has forgiven your sins and has turned your evil deeds into good ones!”

Du'a seeking Allaah's aid to repay debt

Ali رضي اللّه عنـه reported: 'A slave who had made a contract with his master to pay for his freedom came to me and said, "I am unable to fulfill my obligation, so help me."

He رضي اللّه عنـه said to him, "Shall I not teach you a supplication which the Messenger of Allaah صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم taught me? It will surely prove so effective that if you have a debt as large as a huge mountain, Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى will surely pay it for you. Say:

Quote

How shall people come out of their graves on the Day of Resurrection?

Question: How shall people come out of their graves on the Day of Resurrection? And who will be the first to be dressed?

Answer from The Permanent Committee:

Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى, will resurrect man on the Day of Resurrection by reconstructing him from his tail bone. People will grow as perfect creatures just as plants grow from seeds, and palm trees from date stones. They will emerge from their graves barefooted, naked and uncircumcised. They will rush forth like spread out locusts, or dispersed butterflies, and will not miss the way to the Assembly Land. In fact they will know their way to it better than a wild pigeon knows it way to its nest, as they are racing to a target.

The first upon whom the earth will crack open is our Prophet Muhammad صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم. He will be the first to regain consciousness. As for the first to be dressed after Resurrection is Khalilur-Rahmân (the beloved one of the Merciful) may Allaah exalt his mention, and render him safe from evil. Horror will overtake mankind to the point even Prophets will say on the Day: “Myself, myself”. He who reads the Verses that detail with Resurrection in the Surahs Al-Qamar, Al-Ma’arij, and al-Qari’ah, and the like will have more information about that great event.

It is authentically reported in both Bukhari and Muslim, that the Prophet صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم said:

“You shall be summoned barefooted, naked and uncircumcised.”
