Venerating the Month of Allaah

O’ people! Fear Allaah, the Most High, and venerate your month, i.e. Muharram, with the obedience of your Lord because Allaah has honored it and made it virtuous. The Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The BEST fast after Ramadhan is the month of Allaah, Muharram.
[Muslim]

It is one of the four sacred months wherein acts of obedience and abandoning sins are highly emphasized.

“…of them four are sacred (Muharram, Rajab, Dhul-Qi’dah, Dhul-Hijjah). That is the right religion, so wrong yourselves not therein.”
[At-Tawbah 9:36]

On the authority of Abi Hurairah رضي اللّه عنـه said: “When the Prophet صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم  arrived in Al-Medina he found that the Jews would fast the tenth of Muharram. So he صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم said: “What is this?” They said: “This is a GREAT day. Allaah saved Moosaa عليه السلام and the Children of Israel in it and Moosaa would fast it (so this is why we fast it).”

The Prophet صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم said:
We have more right to Moosaa than you do.” So he fasted it and ordered the people to do the same.
[Bukhaari & Muslim]

And he صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم said:

Fasting the tenth of Muharram expiates the (minor) sins of the previous year.”
[Muslim]

So fast the ninth and tenth of Muharram, may Allaah have mercy upon you all, so that your (minor) sins (of the last year) can be expiated and follow the guidance of your Prophet And whoever has difficulty fasting and Allaah knows that if it wasn’t for this reason he would fast, then let him rejoice with receiving the reward from The King, All-Knowing, especially if he regularly would fast these days, i.e. the ninth and tenth of Muharram each year.

Because the Messenger صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم said:

Whoever becomes sick or travels will have the reward of that which he does while he is healthy and present."
[Bukhaari]

On the tenth of Muharram, Allaah saved Moosaa عليه السلام, and his people from Fir’aun and his army. Moosaa عليه السلام invited him to the worship of his Lord however he was arrogant and refused saying:

The most diseased form of Gheeba

Ibn Jawzi (رحمه الله) said,

The most diseased form of backbiting is when people induce others to stay away from some people, while having others look towards them. They combine the acts of dispraising the one mentioned, earning praise for themselves. Due to their ignorance they are oblivious to the fact that they are falling into two sins: backbiting and showing-off.

Who is 'TRULY' fortunate?

Sheikh-ul-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) mentioned in his Majmū’:

The (truly) fortunate one (is he who) seeks forgiveness for the mistakes, and is patient upon the calamities, just as Allāh says: {So be patient. Verily, the Promise of Allāh is true, and ask forgiveness for your fault}in [Sūrah Ghāfir 40:55].”

[Majmū’ Al-Fatāwā 8/454]

Between You & the One in the Grave

It is reported that Al-Hasan Al-Basrī (رحمه الله) once said during the funeral of a man:

May Allāh have mercy on the man who works for the likes of this day; for today you are able to do what these brothers of yours, the residents of these graves, cannot do. So make full use of your health and free time before the day of distress and accounts comes upon you.

{Ibn Abī Al-Dunyā, Dhamm Al-Dunyāarticle 53}

Do you want Allaah to reciprocate your evil with gooness?

“Whoever would love that Allaah سبحانه و تعالى reciprocates his evil with goodness, let him reciprocate the evil people do towards him with goodness.”

{Miftaah Daaris-Sa’aadah, vol.1, pg. 292}

SINS...

Sheikh ibn Uthaimeen رحمه الله تعالى said,

“If you see that you have turned away from something from Allaah’s Religion or you see that you have turned away from the Book of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى, either from reciting its [actual] words, or reciting it [by pondering over] its meaning, or reciting it by acting on it, then it is obligatory on you to cure yourself – and know that the cause of that turning away is SINS.”

Question 77
Who are those who are known for insulting the companions?

Answer:
The Râfidah (الرَّافِضَة).

Sheikh Uthaimeen رحمه الله mentioned that the Râfidah are from the Shia sect. The Shia are basically general and the Rafidah are specific. Every Shia is not a Râfidah and but every Râfidah is from the Shia sect. Râfidah are considered disbelievers.

Sheikh Yahya (حفظه الله) mentioned the following hadith:

Imām al-Barbahārī (رحمه الله) stated: “Know that Allaah’s Messenger (صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم) said: “My ummah will divide into 73 sects, all of them will be in the Fire except for one, and that is the Jamā’ah.” It was said, “And who are they, O' Allaah’s Messenger?” He responded,That which I and my Companions are upon today.”
 (Tirmidhi)

Sheikh Saleh al Fawzan (حفظه الله) mentioned that:

"The Râfidah are NOT considered brothers of the Muslims because they are disbelievers."

Therefore the Râfidah are NOT considered from the 73 sects.

They are disbelievers. They are called Râfidah from the word '(rafada)' which means 'to rejector or refuse.' The Râfidi rejected Zayd ibn ‘Ali ibn Hussein. The Râfidah insult Abu Bakr and Umar رضي الله عنهم and make them disbelievers saying that they disbelieved after Iman. The Râfidah came to Zayd ibn Ali to inquire after Abu Bakr and Umar رضي الله عنهم and Zayd praised them replied that: 'they were both ministers of my grandfather.' Because of this statement they then rejected Zayd ibn Ali. They claim love for Ahl-al-Bayt -- praising them and going overboard in their love for them.

Question 76:
What is the ruling of cursing and insulting the companions?

Answer:

It is disbelief - (كُفُر  Kufr).

What is obligatory upon us concerning the Sahabas is that we love and respect them and we defend their honour. We remain silent with regards to matters pertaining to their disagreements and fighting. The one who insults them is a Munaafiq (hypocrite) since only those who are submerged in hypocrisy insult the companions. How could it be otherwise since the Prophet (صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم) stated as recorded in the hadith of ibn Masud (رضي اللّه عنـه):

"The best of people are from my nation (time), then those who follow them... then those who follow them in my generation."

(Bukhari & Muslim)

Whether they call it Hurricane Irna or Katrina, The Wind Is Not Cursed

From Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Prophet  said:

«الرِّيحُ مِنْ رُوحِ اللَّهِ تَأْتِي بِالرَّحْمَةِ ، وَتَأْتِي بِالْعَذَابِ ، فَلَا تَسُبُّوهَا ، سَلُوا اللَّهَ خَيْرَهَا ، وَاسْتَعِيذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا

The Wind is from the mercy of Allaah for His worshippers, sometimes it comes with mercy and sometimes it comes with punishment. So if you see it do not curse it, ask Allaah for the good of it and seek refuge with Allaah from its evil.

From Ubay bin Ka’ab [رضي الله عنه] said that the Messenger of Allaah [صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم ] said:

Do not curse the wind, if you see something that you dislike of the wind then say: ‘O Allaah indeed we ask of You for the good from this wind and the good which is in it and the good with which You have commanded it with. We seek refuge with You from the evil from this wind and the evil which is in it and the evil with which You have commanded it with.'

Use Hikmah when Dealing with a Sinner!!

Sheikh ibn Uthaimeen رحمه الله تعالى said:

When they see a person sinning, many brothers hate the sin and this is something correct, but they [also] hate the sinner, and then they deal with him harshly as someone who hates him would, like someone who wants to take revenge on him, and this is a huge mistake.
