The Ruling of Oversleeping when Fasting

Sheikh Saleh al Fawzaan حفظه الله was asked:

There is a person who prohibits (the people from) over sleeping in Ramadhan & says "it is upon a Muslim to be awake and active, it is not appropriate that he over sleeps". So, what is your opinion O' noble Sheikh?

A: Yes he should warn from over sleeping in this Month (Ramadhan), I mean sleeping in the day (time) because it makes (one) lazy from performing acts of obedience, perhaps it may cause one to miss the congregation prayer or it may cause the time for (that specific prayer) to pass by. What is requested from a Muslim is that he be energetic in acts of obedience and (that) he sleeps in the night, especially in the first part of it (the night), so he can arise in the morning energetic to perform and participate in acts of obedience.

Two Islaamic Verdicts pertaining to Abstaining from food before Fajr & Breaking the fast exactly at Sun-Set
(Sheikh Saleh bin Uthaimeen رحمه الله)

** What is the ruling on eating & drinking while the Muadhin is calling the adhaan or after the adhaan has been called by a short period, particularly if the entering of dawn is not exactly known?

** A question was posed to the Permanent Committee of Islaamic Verdicts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Is it permissible for a person to break his fast before (hearing) the adhaan (the call to prayer) as long as he is certain the sun has set?

As-Suhoor - It's Virtue, It's Ruling and Issues Pertaining To It

Compiled & translated by: Younus bin Muhammad As-Somaalee

As-Suhoor is:
"Preparing to fast by eating & drinking before daybreak"

Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar says:
”As-Suhoor can be as less as what a person has from food or drink.”
- (Al-Fath V.4, Pg.169)

The Blessing of As-Suhoor:
Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar said:
“The Blessing of As-Suhoor is achieved from a lot of different things:
That it is following the sunnah, contradicting the people of the book, it strengthens a person in worship, increases him in energy, it defends that bad etiquette that hunger brings, it causes a person to give charity by feeding somebody if he asks him or gets together with him to eat As-Suhoor, it causes a person to remember Allaah & to invoke him in a time where it is expected to be answered , it gives the person a chance to make his intention to fast if he was heedless of it before he slept.”

How could you make reconciliation with the devil??

Ibn Al-Jawzee رحمه الله said:

O you who severed the connection to his Lord, return. O you who vowed to reject his Lord, repent. You were honoured when Iblees (the devil) was ordered to prostrate to you, whereas Iblees was cast afar when he refused to do so (i.e., such was his hatred of you). Yet, I truly wonder at you! How could you, in spite of that, make reconciliation with the devil and boycott your Lord?!

Did he not reach Ramadhan, fast & pray with such & such number of prostrations in the year??

Talha ibn ‘Ubaydallah (رضي اللّه عنـه) reported that two men came to the Prophet (صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم) who had accepted Islam at the same time. One of them used to partake in Jihad more-so than the other, and so (one day) he fought in a battle and was martyred therein. The other remained behind him for another year, and then he passed away.

Talha said, ‘I saw in my dream that I was at the door of Paradise when behold, I was with both of them (the two men). Someone came out of Paradise and allowed the man who passed away later to enter first. Then he came out again and allowed the martyred one to enter. Then he returned and said to me, ‘Go back, for your time has not come yet.’

Talha woke up and began to inform others about this and they were all surprised. This reached the Messenger of Allah (صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم) and when they informed him of it, he said:

O’ son of Adam, you are nothing but a few breaths!!

Hasan Al-Basri رحمه الله:

Every day the sun rises, it calls upon us:
"O people! I am a new day;
I am an observer of your actions.
Take advantage of me for I will not return until the Day of Judgment.
O’ son of Adam, you are nothing but a few breaths!!
Once one breath goes out, part of you goes with it.
In the same way that part of you has gone, soon all of you will go."
