THE SUNNAH OF HIS MESSENGER صلى الله عليه وسلم
`Umar رضي الله عنه said that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
"By this Book (i.e. the Qur’aan), Allaah exalts some peoples and degrade others."
[Saheeh Muslim]
Our honor is in following Islaam. `Umar Ibn al-Khattaab رضي الله عنه set out for al-Shaam with Abu `Ubaydah bin al-Jarraah رضي الله عنه. On the way, they came upon a deep creek (which they needed to cross). So `Umar came down off his camel, took off his sandals and carried them on his shoulders. Then he took the reign of the camel and began plowing through the water. Abu `Ubaydah said: “O Ameer al-Mu’mineen! You are doing this - you took off your sandals and carry them on your shoulders while you cross the creek? I fear that the people of the village will think of you without honor.”

`Umar replied:
"Oh Abu `Ubaydah! Had someone other than you made such a statement, I would have made him an example for the Ummah of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم (i.e. he would have punished him). Verily, we were a disgraceful people and Allaah honored us with Islaam, so if we seek honor from other than Islaam, then Allaah will humiliate us."
[Al-Haakim in his Al-Mustadrak (207) and said it is “Saheeh” as per the condition of al-Bukhaaree and Muslim, and al-Dhahabee agreed with him. Shaikh al-Albaanee also agreed with them in al-Saheehah (1/118)]

Miracle of the Crying of the Tree Trunk
From the website of Dr. Saleh as-Saleh رحمه الله تعالى
[Below is a portion
from the book “Miracles of the Messenger (صلى الله
عليه سلم)"
regarding the remembrance of Allaah. This miracle occurred when Rasulullaah
moved from the tree trunk to the newly made pulpit to give the Khutbah. Rasulullaah
صلى
الله عليه و سلم used to lean
against the tree trunk but when he left for the pulpit it cried out loud like a
child for it would no longer be in the company of the Prophet صلى
الله عليه و سلم and hear the
remembrance of Allaah (azzawajal).
You can read the
detailed story and hadith in chapter 6 page 105 in the book “Miracles of the
Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم)”]
There was also
another reason for the weeping of the tree trunk and this was made clear by the
Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم when
he said to his Companions: “It wept because of the remembrance of Allaah
(Dhikr) which it used to hear.”
So, the tree trunk
also used to hear remembrance of Allaah from the mouth of the Messenger of Allaah
(صلى الله عليه و سلم)
and Allaah سبحانه و تعالى
says regarding remembrance of Him:
“Those who
believed (in the Oneness of Allaah Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find
rest in the remembrance of Allaah verily, in the remembrance of Allaah do
hearts find rest."
Therefore, it is
not surprising that the tree trunk cried for that which brought tranquility to
it. Haply, we may learn from this lifeless thing to love the remembrance of
Allaah and to accustom ourselves to it.
The word Dhikr
means to remember something through constant verbal repetition of it.
So, if a person
were to constantly repeat the Names of Allaah for example he would be
remembering Allaah; and due to the great need of man for remembrance of Allaah,
He has encouraged us to do it, in His Words:
“He said: ‘O my
Lord! Make a sign for me.’ (Allaah) said: ‘Your sign is that you shall not
speak to mankind for three days except with signals. And remember your Lord
much (by praising Him again and again), and glorify (Him) in the afternoon and
in the morning.”

Why is the torment of the grave hidden from man⁉️
Why is the torment of the grave hidden from man⁉️
✒Sheikh 'Uthaimeen رحمه الله
Question: Is the torment of the grave one of the matters of the unseen or of the seen world? What is the reason why it is made one of the matters of the unseen?
Answer: The torment of the grave is one of the matters of the unseen. How many people in these graves are being tormented but we do not realize it, and how many of their neighbours are being blessed with a door opened for them to Paradise, but we do not realize it!
What is beneath the graves is known ONLY to the Knower of the Unseen. The torment of the grave is one of the matters of the unseen, and were it not for the revelation that came to the Prophet, ﷺ, we would not know anything about it. Hence when the Jewish woman entered upon ‘Aaishah (رضي الله عنها) and told her that the dead are tormented in the grave, she was alarmed, until the Prophet, ﷺ, came and she told him, and he confirmed that.
But Allaah سبحانه و تعالى may cause whomsoever He wills of His slaves to see that, as He caused His Prophet, ﷺ, to see the two men who were being punished, one for going about spreading malicious gossip, and the other for not taking precautions to protect himself from urine. The reasons why this is one of the matters of the unseen are as follows:

Which is better: Sawm on the 10th with the 9th or the 10th with the 11th of Muharram?
(Source: Alifta.net)
Observing Sawm on the 9th and 10th of Muharram is better than on the 10th and 11th.
Question: What is the ruling on observing Sawm (Fast) on the Day of ‘Ashura’ (10th of Muharram)? Is it better to observe Sawm on the day that precedes it, the day that succeeds it, all the three days, or on the Day of ‘Ashura’ only? Please clarify the matter. May Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى reward you with the best!
Answer: It is a Sunnah (supererogatory act of
worship following the example of the Prophet) to observe Sawm on the Day of
‘Ashura’ for the authentic Hadiths in which the Prophet (صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم) stated so. The Prophet
(صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم) mentioned that the
Jews used to observe Sawm on that Day because it was the day on which Allaah سُبحانه
وتعالى
rescued Prophet Musa (عليه
السلام)
and his people and destroyed Pharaoh and his people. Our Prophet Muhammad (صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم) thus, observed Sawm on
the Day of ‘Ashura’ to express his gratitude to Allaah سُبحانه
وتعالى,
advised Muslims to do so, and directed us as well to observe Sawm on the day
preceding or succeeding it. However, observing Sawm on the ninth and tenth of
Muharram is better than doing so on the tenth and eleventh. The latter form is
also sufficient for it contradicts the practice of the Jews as well.
