Suffering from Depression? Feeling Down? Sad all the Time?

Sheikh Uthaimeen رحمه الله explains the solution...

"Indeed the Legislation orders us to keep away from everything which causes regret … Allaah سُبحانه وتعال said:

Secret counsels (conspiracies) are only from Satan, in order that he may cause grief to the believers. But he cannot harm them in the least, except as Allaah permits.”
[Al-Mujadilah 58:10]

And Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى only told us this so that we keep away from it, it was not merely a piece of information telling us that the Devil wants to cause us grief, no, what is meant is that we keep away from everything which causes grief. And for this reason the Prophet  said, “When there are three people, two should not converse together to the exclusion of the third.”[Agreed upon]

So everything which brings about sadness in a person is forbidden …

The Prophet  ordered a person who saw a dream that he disliked to dry-spit to his left three times and seek Allaah’s Refuge from its evil and the evil of the Devil and to then turn to the other side [to sleep on] and not to tell anyone about it and to perform ablution and pray—all of this so that a person can drive away all of these things [grief etc.] …

The following article is a transcribed interview conducted with Umm ‘Abdillaah, wife of Sheikh ibn ‘Uthaymeen رحمه الله.

Question 1: Was there any change in the motivation of the Sheikh regarding ‘ilm (knowledge), da’wah, and worship between his youth and his elder years?

Answer: I did not find any diminishing or weakness in his motivation in knowledge, da’wah, and worship despite his advancing age. On the contrary, his busy schedule continued to increase with time, as was the case with his worship and call, to the extent that during his intense illness, he was not negligent with one moment; he would spend every second in the remembrance of Allaah (
سُبحانه وتعالى), worshiping Him, teaching, or directing.

Question 2: What did you see that was amazing in the Sheikh’s life?

Answer: His life was an example to follow, especially his patience and motivation to seek the knowledge as well as teach and disseminate it. Also, his piety was something that those who were not close to him may not have known about.
