Trees of the Heart

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (رحمه الله) said in Al Fawa'id, Pages: 239-240:

Ikhlaas and Tawheed are a tree in the heart. Its branches are the actions, and its fruits are the good life in this Dunyah and everlasting bliss in the Aakhirah.

And just as the fruits of Jannah are neither cut off (by change of season) nor out of reach, likewise is the case with the fruits of Tawheed and Ikhlaas.

Shirk, lies, and riyaa are a tree in the heart. Its fruits in the Dunyah are fear and anxiety, grief and distress of the breast and oppression upon the heart. Its fruits in the afterlife are the tree of zaqqoom and an everlasting punishment.

And Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى has made mention of these two trees in Surah al Ibrahim:

"See you not how Allaah sets forth a parable? A goodly word as a goodly
tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the sky
(i.e. very high). Giving its fruits at all times, by the leave of its
Lord, and Allaah sets forth parables for mankind in order that they may
remember. And the parable of an evil word is that of an evil tree
uprooted from the surface of earth, having no stability
."
[Ibrahim 14:24-26]

Light on the tongue, heavy on the scales

The Messenger of Allaah () said, "There are two statements that are light on the tongue to remember, heavy in the Scales and are dear to the Merciful: 'Subhan-Allaahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allaahil-Azeem.'
[Glory be to Allaah & His is the praise, (and) Allaah, the Greatest is free from imperfection]'.
[Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

The reward of those who have a heavy scale is mentioned by Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى
 in His Noble Book:

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ
فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ
'Then as for him whose balance (of good deeds) will be heavy,
He will live a pleasant life (in Paradise).'
(Al-Qari'ah 101:6-7)

The ILL Effects of Sins

ONE: The prevention of knowledge: Knowledge is a light which Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى throws into the heart and disobedience extinguishes this light.

Imâm Shaafi’ee (رحمه الله) said:

I complained to Wakee’ about the weakness of my memory, so he ordered me to abandon disobedience. And informed me that the knowledge is light. And that the light of Allaah is not given to the disobedient.

TWO:  The prevention of sustenance: Just as Taqwaa brings about sustenance, the abandonment of Taqwaa causes poverty. There is nothing which can bring about sustenance like the abandonment of disobedience.

THREE: The prevention of obedience (to Allaah): If there was no other punishment for sin other than that it prevents one from obedience to Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى then this would be sufficient.

FOUR: Disobedience weakens the heart and the body: Its weakening the heart is something which is clear. Disobedience does not stop weakening it until the life of the heart ceases completely.

FIVE: Disobedience reduces the lifespan and destroys any blessings: Just as righteousness increases the lifespan, sinning reduces it.

SIX: Disobedience sows its own seeds and gives birth to itself until separating from it and coming out of it becomes difficult for the servant.

SEVEN: Sins weaken the hearts will and resolve so that the desire for disobedience becomes strong and the desire to repent becomes weak bit by bit until the desire to repent is removed from the heart completely.

EIGHT: Every type of disobedience is a legacy of a nation from among the nations which Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى destroyed. Sodomy is a legacy of the People of Lot, taking more than one’s due right and giving what is less is a legacy of the People of Shu’ayb, seeking greatness in the land and causing corruption is a legacy of the People of Pharoah and pride/arrogance and tyranny is a legacy of the People of Hud. So the disobedient one is wearing the gown of some of these nations who were the enemies of Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى.

What happens after one dies?

Know, O slave of Allaah!

Your deeds are the means to your success or your destruction in the Hereafter...
So, think carefully about your future!

Your health & your strength cannot save you from the punishment of the grave;

nor your wealth, family & tribesmen can aid you in the standing before your Lord
on the Day of Judgment;

 nor will the tears of your loved ones benefit you when your deeds are
placed on the scale.

So, fear your lord and look to your deeds and seek not but the pleasure of Allaah!

If you ask, then ASK Allaah...

DO NOT ABANDON Fajr prayer & DO NOT be HEEDLESS about it !

The Messenger of Allaah صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم said:
“Whoever prays Fajr is under the protection of Allaah, so DO NOT fall short with regard to the rights of Allaah, for anyone who does that, Allaah will seize him and will throw him on his face into the Fire of Hell.”
[Muslim 657]

Al-Teebi
رحمه الله said:
"The reason why Fajr prayer is singled out for mention here is because of the hardship that it entails, and performing it is a sign of a man’s sincerity and faith, and whoever is a sincere believer is under the protection of Allaah."
[Sharh Mishkaat al-Masaabeeh by al-Teebi (2/184)]

Al-Baydaawi
رحمه الله said:
"It may be that what is meant by protection is that prayer brings security (from the punishment of Allaah), so what is meant is:  Do NOT abandon Fajr prayer, and DO NOT be heedless about it, lest you break the covenant that exists between you and your Lord, and Allaah seizes you, for whomever He seizes He will throw on his face into the Fire. That is because Fajr prayer is somewhat difficult and burdensome. So performing it is a sign of the believer’s sincerity, and the one who is sincere is under the protection of Allaah."
[End quote from Fayd al-Qadeer (6/164)]

What is the best way to seek knowledge?

Question: Briefly, what is the way to seek knowledge, and may Allaah reward you with good?

Response by Sheikh ibn ‘Uthaimeen رحمه الله:

Briefly, in point form, the way to seek knowledge is as follows:

1) Take care to memorize the Book of Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى and allocate some time every day to memorize and read, such that your recitation is with reflection and understanding. And if you come across a beneficial point whilst reading, then make a note of it;

2) Take care to memorize that which is easy (for you) from the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم and from that (I recommend) memorizing (the book) ‘Umdatul-Ahkaam;

3) Take care in concentrating and confirming (whilst seeking knowledge) such that you do not take a little knowledge from here and a little from there. This is because this wastes your time and (unnecessarily) busies your mind;

4) Start with the smaller books and study them well, then move on to that which is above this (in level) until you obtain knowledge little by little in a manner which makes firm (the knowledge) in your heart and to that which you are at peace (comfortable) with;

5) Take care to understand the fundamental issues, their rules and the limits of all that passes by you, as it has been said:

Whoever does not take care to learn the fundamentals/principles, then he has prevented (himself) from arriving at the conclusion/goal;

Would you like to be a Key to Good?

The Messenger of Allaah صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم said:

"Verily amongst the people are those who are keys to good and locks to evil. And amongst the people are those who are keys to evil and locks to good. So Toobaa[1] for the one whom Allaah has placed the keys of good upon his hands and woe be to the one whom Allaah has placed the keys of evil at his disposal.”
[Sunan Ibn Maajah #237, Ibn Abi 'Aasim in "As-Sunnah" #297, Musnad At-Tayaalisi #2082, Al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Eemaan #698, & Al-Albani declared it good in As-Saheehah #1332]

Sheikh ‘Abdur Razaaq bin ‘Abdul Muhsin Al-‘Abbaad حفظه الله said:

"From the ways to be a key to good is by supplication."

Supplication is the key to every good as one of the Pious Predecessors stated something similar when he said: “I contemplated about the entirety of good and found that it has many entrances: Prayer is from good, fasting is from good, hajj (pilgrimage to the Sacred House of Allaah) is from good, the entrances of good are numerous. Then I realized that all of that is in the Hands of Allaah and thus I was certain that supplication is the key to all good.”

You are incapable of praying unless Allaah assists you in that, you are incapable of performing the pilgrimage to the Sacred House, fasting, giving charity, being dutiful to your parents, carrying out acts of righteousness unless Allaah assists you in that. For this reason, the Prophet صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم recited on the day of Ahzaab:

If it wasn’t for Allaah, we wouldn’t have been guided, nor would we have fasted or offered prayer.”
[Bukhari #6620, Muslim ‎‎#1803]
