Question:
What is the ruling
on the one who preserves the prayers in the month of Ramadhan and he fasts six
days from the month of Shawwaal, however, after Ramadhan he abandons the
prayer, consumes intoxicants, and fornicates; the general people with us are
like this, so what is their ruling? When we advise them they do not accept it.
Answer:
The one who does
this, based upon that which is correct from the statements of the people of
knowledge, is considered a disbeliever. This is because the Prophet ﷺ said:
“There is not between the servant and disbelief and
polytheism except the prayer; the one who abandons it has disbelieved.”
And the Messenger ﷺ
said:
“The covenant that is between us and them is the
prayer…”
Na’am. I added (mistakenly) to the first Hadeeth. I will repeat it:
“There is nothing between the servant and disbelief
and Shirk except the prayer.” (That’s it)
And he also
says in the Hadeeth of Buraydah:
“The covenant that is between us and them is the
prayer, he who abandons it has disbelieved.”
Allaah the Mighty
and Majestic says in His Noble Book, reporting about some of the believers will
say to some of those who are in the Hellfire:
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ ٤٢ قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ
الْمُصَلِّينَ ٤٣
“What has landed you in the Fire? The will say: ‘We
were not from those who used to pray.”
(Al-Mudaththir
74:42-43)
Moreover, Allaah
the Mighty and Majestic says:
فَخَلَفَ مِنْبَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌأَضَاعُواالصَّلَاةَوَاتَّبَعُواالشَّهَوَاتِ فَسَوْفَ يَلْقَوْنَغَيًّا
٥٩
“Then, there has succeeded them a posterity who have
given up As-Salaat (the prayers) [i.e. made their Salaat (prayers) to be lost,
either by not offering them or by not offering them perfectly or by not
offering them in their proper fixed times, etc.] and have followed lusts. So
they will be thrown in Hell.”
(Maryam
19:59)
And Allaah the Glorified
and Exalted has said:
فَوَيْلٌلِلْ مُصَلِّينَ ٤ الَّذِينَهُمْ عَنْصَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ ٥
“Woe to those who pray! Those who
are negligent as it relates to their prayer.”
(Al-Maa’oon
107:4-5)
Allaah the
Glorified and Exalted says:
فَإِنْتَابُوا وَأَقَامُواالصَّلَاةَ وَآتَوُاالزَّكَاةَ فَإِخْوَانُكُمْ فِيالدِّينِ
١١
“But if they repent and establish
the prayer and pay Zakat, then they are your brothers in religion.”
(At-Tawbah
9:11)
What is understand from the verse is that those who do
not do that, then they are not our brothers in religion.
