Trials & Tribulations

Why Should We Face Trials And Tribulations Confidently?

 “No calamity befalls, but with the Leave [i.e. decision and Qadar (Divine Preordainments)] of Allaah, and whosoever believes in Allaah, He guides his heart [to the true Faith with certainty, i.e. what has befallen him was already written for him by Allaah from the Qadar (Divine Preordainments)], and Allah is the All-Knower of everything.”

 Allaah سبحانه و تعالى says:

(No calamity befalls, but by the Leave decision and Qadar of Allaah). This takes account of all calamities that may touch one’s self, wealth, children, loved ones, and so forth. All that touches the slaves happens by Allaah’s decision and destiny. His knowledge has encompassed all this beforehand; His Pen recorded it, His decree appointed it, His wisdom dictated it.

The heart of the matter is, would the slave fulfil their mission here or not? One who does will earn the handsome reward and the beautiful compensation in this and the Last Life. When one believes that calamities are ordained by Allaah, feels content, and submits to Allaah’s decision, Allaah will guide his or her heart. They will then be tranquil and not prone to anxiety when calamities befall, unlike those whose hearts Allaah did not guide. Allaah will also grant them firmness when calamities come, and therefore, they will fulfil the requirements of patience. As a consequence they will earn immediate reward along with the reward that Allaah will keep for them for the Day of Recompense just as he stated,

 إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى الصَّابِرُونَ أَجْرَهُم بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
سورة الزمر - ٣٩:١٠

“Only those who are patient shall receive their reward in full, without reckoning.”
Consequently those who do not have faith in Allaah when misfortune happen, and thus ignore the role of Allah’s decision and appointed destiny (in the misfortune) only concentrating on the effect not the cause, will attain failure. Allaah will abandon them and make them rely on themselves. If the slaves are left to rely on themselves, the inner-self can only offer them anxiety and fear, which is an immediate punishment for the slave even before punishment in the Hereafter, because they ignored the requirement of observing patience. This pertains to conduct during misfortunes as pertains to Allaah’s Statement, (and whosoever believes in Allaah He guides his heart).

As for the general implication of the Ayah Allaah states that if a slave has proper faith, which consists of belief in Allaah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Last Day, and the good and undesirable parts of Predestination, and had sincere faith by fulfilling the necessary and obligated parts of Eman, then this becomes the biggest reason to achieve Allaah’s guidance in all conditions, statements, actions, knowledge and practice. This, indeed, is the best reward that Allaah grants to people of faith. For instance, Allaah states that He will keep ‘firm’ those who believe, in this world and in the Hereafter. Firmness in the heart, patience, and feeling certainty in the face of every calamity constitute the firmness mentioned here;

Allaah سبحانه و تعالى said,

Allaah will keep firm those who believe, with the word that stands firm in this world (they will continue to worship Allaah Alone and none else), and in the Hereafter.

People of Eman have the most rightly guided hearts and the most firm stance when confronted by misfortunes or problems, on account of the faith they have.
