I am sick & NOT able to Fast..

by Sheikh Bin Baaz (Rahimahullaah)

Question: I am sick and NOT able to fast. If I fast it will harm me. Do I have to do expiation or what should I do?

Answer: This needs some explanation: If the sick person is likely to become healed and the doctors are saying if he gets the treatment it’s anticipated that he will be healed, then the fasting remains as a debt; the fasting remains as a debt until the sick person becomes healed then he should make the fast up.

But if the doctors have established that the sick person is not likely to be healed from this sickness, rather it is a permanent illness then he is like the elderly person who is not able to fast and therefore he should feed one poor person for every day missed of the fast.

The Phrase 'Ramadhan Kareem' is NOT correct!

Shaykh Uthaymin (rahimahullaah)

 9 Months Later

Question: When the fasting person falls into a sin and he is prohibited from that sin he will say, Ramadan Kareem. So what is the ruling concerning this phrase and what is the ruling concerning this behavior?

Answer: The ruling concerning this is, this phrase ‘Ramadhan Kareem’ is NOT correct, and the only phrase that should be said is ‘Ramadhan Mubarak’ or what resembles that. Because Ramadhan is not the one that gives such that it can be called generous (Kareem), rather it is only Allaah the Exalted that put virtue in it and made it a virtuous month and made the time period for performing (the fasting) a pillar from Islaam.

The Qur’aan & your Heart

“There is nothing more beneficial for the heart than reading the Qur’aan with contemplation and reflection. The Qur’aan encompasses all the levels of the travelers, the conditions of the workers, and stations of those possessing knowledge. It is the Qur’aan that generates love, desire, fear, hope, repentance, reliance, pleasure, entrustment, gratitude, patience and the rest of the different states that are life to the heart and perfection of it.”

Knowledge Transforms the Students

Al-Hasan Al-Basrî  (Allaah have mercy on him) said:

“When a man sought knowledge, it would not be long before it could be seen in his humbleness, his sight, upon his tongue & his hands, in his prayer, in his speech & in his disinterest (zuhd) in worldly allurements. And a man would acquire a portion of knowledge & put it into practice, & it would be better for him than the world & all it contains – if he owned it he would give it in exchange for the Hereafter.”

Ibn Al-Mubârak, Al-Zuhd wa Al-Raqâ`iq Vol.1 p.156.

Our Eating Habits in Ramadhan & at other times

Salman bin `Amir [radiaAllaahu anhu] reported:

I heard the Prophet [صلى الله عليه وسلم] saying,
"When one of you breaks his Saum (fasting), let him break it on dates; if he does not have any, break his fast with water for it is pure.''

[Abu Dawood]

Anas [radiAllaahu anhu] reported:
“The Messenger of Allaah [صلى الله عليه وسلم] used to break his Sawm (fast) before offering Maghrib (sunset) prayer with three fresh dates; if there were no fresh dates, he will eat three dry dates; & if there were no dry dates, he would take three draughts of water.”
[Abu Dawood & others, graded authentic by Shaikh Al-Albani in Sahih Al-Jami' AS-Saghir, No.4995].

وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يَتَمَتَّعُونَ وَيَأْكُلُونَ كَمَا تَأْكُلُ الْأَنْعَامُ وَالنَّارُ مَثْوًى لَّهُمْ
"But those who disbelieve enjoy themselves & eat as cattle eat, & the Fire will be their abode.
[Surah Muhammad: 12]

The condition of the Pious Predecessors in Ramadhan

Questioner: I have a few questions, the first of them: What is the guidance of the Pious Predecessors, (may Allaah be pleased with them & have mercy on them), regarding the approaching of this great month? How was their line of conduct? How was their way?

The second question, Oh noble Sheikh, is: How should the preparation of the Muslim be in order for him to take full advantage of these days & nights that he is living in presently? A knowledge-based preparation of learning the rulings of fasting, nullifiers of the fast, etc.  (This is because) some people are negligent about these things & hence do not gain the obligatory amount of understanding of fasting. So can the Sheikh, may Allaah preserve him, shed light & make mention of this matter?

Sheikh Saalih al-Fouzaan, (hafidhahullaah), answers:

Performing ‘Umrah in Ramadhan is equal to Hajj (in reward)

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbaas (radiAllaahu anhu) :

Allaah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) asked an Ansaari woman, “What prevented you from performing Hajj with us?” She replied, “We have a camel & the father of so-and-so & his son (i.e. her husband & her son) rode it & left one camel for us to use for irrigation.” He said (to her), “Perform ‘Umrah when Ramadaan comes, for Umrah in Ramadaan is equal to Hajj (in reward)” or said something similar.

And from the beneficial affairs is to know that the harm of the people on you, especially with regards to evil speech does not harm you; rather it harms them. (It does not harm you) unless you preoccupy yourself in giving it importance & allow it to dominate your emotions, then it will harm you as it harms them. Indeed, it will not harm you in anyway if you pay no attention to it.”

Beware of the living & gathering places of Jinn

Where do the Jinn live?

The jinn live upon the same earth as humans do.

Most of them can be found among the ruins and dilapidated areas, as well as the places where there are many impure things, such as, bathrooms, hashish dens, garbage dumps, the places of the camels, cemeteries.

“…if you’re granted a small blessing…”

Allaah revealed to Prophet ‘Uzayr -`alaihissalaam:

“O ‘Uzayr! If you committed a small sin, do not look at its smallness; rather look at Whom you have sinned against. If you are granted a small blessing, do not look at its smallness; rather look at the One who has granted it to you. And if a calamity befalls you, then ...
