Then in reality, I have not fasted....

 

A Poet said:

If there is NOT in my hearing safeguarding from evil & 

in my gaze lowering it & 

in my speech silence

Then my share from my fast is merely HUNGER & THIRST, & 

if I say I have fasted my day,

Then, in reality, I have NOT fasted !!

The One who prays in RAMADHAN but not in other months

Question:

What is the ruling on the one who preserves the prayers in the month of Ramadhan and he fasts six days from the month of Shawwaal, however, after Ramadhan he abandons the prayer, consumes intoxicants, and fornicates; the general people with us are like this, so what is their ruling? When we advise them they do not accept it.

Answer:

The one who does this, based upon that which is correct from the statements of the people of knowledge, is considered a disbeliever. This is because the Prophet ﷺ said:

Your Dua will be answered at the time of breaking fast (Iftaar)

'Abdullah ibn Umar رضي اللّه عنـه who said:

'It used to be said: "Verily, every believer has a du'aa that will be answered at the time of Iftaar (breaking the fast); either it will be hastened for him (i.e. it will be answered) in his Dunyaa, or it will be kept for him until his Hereafter."

Allaah distances him from Hellfire, the distance of 100 years

Upon the authority of 'Uqbah ibn Aamir  who said that the Messenger of Allaahصلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم  said :

"Whoever fasts a day for the sake of Allaah, then Allaah distances him from Hellfire (Jahannam) the distance of 100 years."

{Nisaa'ee & declared 'Hasan' by Sheikh a-Albaani in 'Saheehul Jaami' (6330)}

The Flavor of the Heart

Imaam Ibnul-Qayyim, رحمه الله said: 

"If you would like to draw a conclusion of what is contained in someone’s heart then use as a proof the movements of his tongue, for surely, he will show you what is contained in his heart regardless of whether he wants to or not."

Yahyaa Ibn Mu’aadh رحمه الله said,

"The hearts are like pots. They boil with that which they contain and their tongues are their ladles [i.e. scooping spoons]. So look at a man when he speaks. His tongue will scoop out for you that which is contained in his heart, whether it is sweet or bitter, fresh or salty and other than that. And the flavor of his heart will become clear to you from that which his tongue scoops out. ¹

Important Dua by the Salaf in the beginning of Ramadhan

Our Righteous Pious Predecessors used to make this comprehensive dua when Ramadhan came upon them:

"O Allaah, the month of Ramadhan has come & has cast its shadow over us, so send it upon us with peace & make us submit to it. O Allaah! Bestow upon us fasting & praying at night during it & grant us sincerity & help us to strive during it. Give us strength & energy & protect us from trials during it."
