The Mannerisms & Characteristics of those who uphold the Qur'aan - 6

The People of the Qur'aan are known for their beautiful, noble characteristics. It is beautiful recitation, memorization, pondering and application. The Speech of Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى is the BEST Speech in the world. Those who busy themselves upholding the Speech of Allaah necessitates that they be known for good character and mannerism as mentioned by Imaam Aajuri (رحمه الله) has mentioned. By upholding these characteristics one will gain complete happiness in this world and the world Hereafter.

The beholder of the Qur'aan conducts himself to that which Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى and His Messenger صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم call to. This is the one who will have true happiness. Happiness is not obtained in material things though the Kuffaar try to make us belief that it is so. If we take a close look at all these noble characteristics, we will notice that all of this has to do with our relationship with our Creator and creation --- i.e., how we should conduct ourselves with Allaah (our correct understanding of Him سُبحانه وتعالى) and with each other. 

From the characteristics that is necessary for the beholder of the Qur'aan is that he controls his anger

Place DEATH within your sight

 

Ibnu Jawzee (رحمه الله) said:

It is incumbent upon the sensible person to make preparations for his departure (from this world), for indeed he neither knows when the command of his Lord will descend nor when he will be called back. Indeed, I see many people deceived by youthfulness, forgetful of the loss of companions and infatuated with prolonged expectations.

And it may be that a scholar who is solely interested in himself says, "I will seek knowledge today and act upon it tomorrow.’’ So he becomes lackadaisical with regards to committing mistakes due to comfort and delayed by the hope that he will accomplish repentance, and he neither keeps away from backbiting nor from listening to it. The one who falls into something that resembles the truth but is not entirely the truth, then let him wipe it away by staying away from the things he fears will ruin the affairs of his afterlife.

Fasting Six days of Shawwal when one has Days to make up from Ramadhan

Question: Is it permissible to fast six days from Shawwaal before one makes up that which is due upon him from days wherein be broke his fast during Ramadhan?


Answer: If one is able to make up the days wherein he broke his fast during Ramadhan, and then fast the six days then this is an affair which is good. If he is not able to fast them both then it is permissible for him to fast the six days regarding which the Prophet صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم said:

مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَهُ بِسِتٍّ مِنْ شَوَّالٍ فَكَأَنَّمَا صَامَ الدَّهْرَ كله

“Whoever fasts Ramadhan then followed it up with six days from Shawwaal, then it is as if he fasted for the entire year.”

Not a leaf falls but He (azzawajal) KNOWS it...

Benefits obtained in conditioning oneself to fast after Ramadhan

 
  

A few excerpts from the wonderful work (Lataa'if al Maa'rif) of Al Hafith ibn Rajab رحمه الله.

      ** Fasting the six days of Shawwal completes the reward for fasting a full year.

   ** Fasting these six days and previously fasting in the month of Shabaan (prior to Ramadhan) is similar to the sunan ar-rawaatib (voluntary prayers associated to each obligatory prayer). These prayers proceed and succeed the obligatory prayers, and correct the deficiency and insufficiency present within them. Indeed voluntary prayers strengthen and perfect any deficiency present within obligatory prayers as has been mentioned by the Messenger صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم in several narrations. Most people possess fault and defect in their obligatory prayers, and because of this the Messenger  صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم forbade a person from saying: I have fasted and stood (in prayer) the full month of Ramadhan. (Abu Dawud, Nisa'ee) A companion upon hearing this hadith said: I don't know if this forbiddance was due to dislike of praise or due to defect present in the act of worship.

Reflecting upon the patience of Yoosuf ( عليه السلام)


Ibnul-Qayyim رحمه الله said: I heard Sheikh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله say: 

((The patience of Yoosuf عليه السلام against compliance to the wife of Al-‘Azeez in her matter was more complete than his patience over his being thrown into the well by his brothers and his being sold off as well as their separating him from his father. For these affairs passed him whilst he had no choice in them, he was not secure from them; the servant is in no position in them except to have patience. As for his patience from committing sin; then that was practicing a patience of choice and waging a war upon the Nafs (inner-self/soul).

The Doors of Success - Ibnul-Qayyim رحمه الله


The doors of success have been closed upon the creation because of six things:

Their busying themselves with the blessings of Allaah instead of thanking Allaah for them, their desire for knowledge while they abandon actions, the hastiness to sin and delaying repentance, the deception of having righteous companions and not taking them as examples, the turning away of the dunya from them while they chase it, and the approach of the afterlife towards them while they turn away from it.”
