As-Suhoor - It's Virtue, It's Ruling and Issues Pertaining To It

Compiled & translated by: Younus bin Muhammad As-Somaalee

As-Suhoor is:
"Preparing to fast by eating & drinking before daybreak"

Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar says:
”As-Suhoor can be as less as what a person has from food or drink.”
- (Al-Fath V.4, Pg.169)

The Blessing of As-Suhoor:
Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar said:
“The Blessing of As-Suhoor is achieved from a lot of different things:
That it is following the sunnah, contradicting the people of the book, it strengthens a person in worship, increases him in energy, it defends that bad etiquette that hunger brings, it causes a person to give charity by feeding somebody if he asks him or gets together with him to eat As-Suhoor, it causes a person to remember Allaah & to invoke him in a time where it is expected to be answered , it gives the person a chance to make his intention to fast if he was heedless of it before he slept.”

Did he not reach Ramadhan, fast & pray with such & such number of prostrations in the year??

Talha ibn ‘Ubaydallah (رضي اللّه عنـه) reported that two men came to the Prophet (صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم) who had accepted Islam at the same time. One of them used to partake in Jihad more-so than the other, and so (one day) he fought in a battle and was martyred therein. The other remained behind him for another year, and then he passed away.

Talha said, ‘I saw in my dream that I was at the door of Paradise when behold, I was with both of them (the two men). Someone came out of Paradise and allowed the man who passed away later to enter first. Then he came out again and allowed the martyred one to enter. Then he returned and said to me, ‘Go back, for your time has not come yet.’

Talha woke up and began to inform others about this and they were all surprised. This reached the Messenger of Allah (صلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم) and when they informed him of it, he said:

Important Reminder

Reminder for Ramadhan

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah who said that the Messenger of Allaah ascended the minbar & said: “Amin, amin, amin.” So it was said: “O Messenger of Allaah, when you ascended the minbar you said ‘Amin, Amin, Amin.”

He replied: “Indeed Jibril came to me & said, ‘Whoever reaches the month of Ramadhan & is NOT forgiven for his sins & so enters the Hell-fire, then may Allaah distance him. Say, Amin.’ So I said Amin. He (i.e. Jibril) said:

Important means to assist the woman during Ramadhan

Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzaan حفظه الله
Question: What are the most important means that will assist the woman upon obedience during the month of Ramadan?

Answer: The means that will assist the Muslim upon obedience to Allaah whether they are male or female are as follows.

1. Fear of Allaah سبحانه وتعالى & to believe that He is observing the creation in all of their actions, & statements, & intentions & that He will take them to account for all of that. Therefore if the person is cognizant of this reality then he will busy himself with the obedience of Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى & leave off sins & he will hasten to repent from his wrongdoings.

2. Increase in the remembrance of Allaah & the recitation of the Qur’aan because this will soften the heart. Allaah سُبحانه وتعالى said:

الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ اللّهِ أَلاَ بِذِكْرِ اللّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ
Those who believe, & whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allaah: for without doubt in the remembrance of Allaah do hearts find satisfaction’.
(Ra'd 13:28)

Then in reality, I have not fasted....

A Poet said:
If there is NOT in my hearing safeguarding from evil &
in my gaze lowering it &
in my speech silence
Then my share from my fast is merely HUNGER & THIRST, &
if I say I have fasted my day,
Then, in reality, I have NOT fasted !!

The One who prays in RAMADHAN but not in other months

Sheikh Muqbil  رحمه الله
Question:
What is the ruling on the one who preserves the prayers in the month of Ramadhan and he fasts six days from the month of Shawwaal, however, after Ramadhan he abandons the prayer, consumes intoxicants, and fornicates; the general people with us are like this, so what is their ruling? When we advise them they do not accept it.

Answer:
The one who does this, based upon that which is correct from the statements of the people of knowledge, is considered a disbeliever. This is because the Prophet said:

Your Dua will be answered at the time of breaking fast (Iftaar)

'Abdullah ibn Umar رضي اللّه عنـه who said:

'It used to be said: "Verily, every believer has a du'aa that will be answered at the time of Iftaar (breaking the fast); either it will be hastened for him (i.e. it will be answered) in his Dunyaa, or it will be kept for him until his Hereafter."

Allaah distances him from Hellfire, the distance of 100 years

Upon the authority of 'Uqbah ibn Aamir  who said that the Messenger of Allaahصلّى اللَّهُ عليه وسلّم  said :

"Whoever fasts a day for the sake of Allaah, then Allaah distances him from Hellfire (Jahannam) the distance of 100 years."
